The economy has hit everyone in some way or another this past year--it could have been job loss, foreclosure, or a change in economic status. You may be trying to hide whatever it is from your children, but kids know.
Heidi Baker, director of the child and family development center at the University of Utah says kids hear the whispers and feel the strain, so talk to them. "We need to be positive rather than stress kids out, because kids do feel stressed."
It's important to explain what's going on at a level the child understands, and reassure them you will always love them and keep them safe. Be honest, but don't say something that may make your children panic.
